Chicago Tribune – Starting next week, the nation’s second-largest ride sharing company will team up with Chicago’s Baderbrau Brewing on Five Star Lager, a brand both companies envision drinkers reaching for at the end of an evening out — just about the time they’re deciding how to get home.
The partnership achieves a longtime goal for Lyft of getting inside bars. Though centered initially in Chicago, the initiative could expand to other cities.
After reading this article, I’ve spent some time trying to come up with something funny to say about it, or even find a way to make fun of Lyft, but I can’t. Lyft releasing it’s own brand of beer which also encourages people to take a Lyft ride home by offering a discount code on the can is pretty genius to me…. until drunk dudes get in my car and throw empty Lyft beer cans at me thinking that I can apply the discount to their ride for them.
We all know driving around drunk people is obnoxious as hell and dread doing a pickup from a bar, and we all know this is just a marketing gimmick by Lyft, but let’s be real here. Offering a discount on a product that impairs driving is extremely smart and good for people on the roads. Anyone who takes an Uber or Lyft home after a night of drinking may be obnoxious, but they should be commended for doing that instead of driving themselves. That is part of the reason why I just tolerate screaming in my ear or the borderline racist comments that slip out of mouths from drunk people.
One question is, will they be doing this in the states that have legalized marijuana? I can see it now. Creating a strain called ‘Lyft’ and using a tagline like “We’ll get you high and give you a lyft!” Feel free to send me a check for that, Lyft.
